Jenny is outgoing, bubbly, and loves to smile every time she looks at Frank. Frank is quiet, calm, and loves to see Jenny’s face light up with her smile. Together, they are two peas in a pod, excited to start their married life together! For their wedding, they chose to get married at the La Valencia hotel in San Diego.

A Weekday La Valencia Wedding

Having recently graduated from UCSD, they wanted to keep their wedding simple and low key. They chose to have their wedding on a weekday in the middle of the afternoon. Also, the guest list was intimate and focused on their family and closest friends. The result? A day filled with love and quality time with each and every guest.

Why get Married During the Week?

As a sidenote, I love when couples get married on a weekday! First off, there is a better chance that I have your date available, as weekend dates tend to fill up fast. Additionally, if you want to get married at a popular venue (there are tons of La Valencia weddings on the weekends!), you’re more likely to secure that as well.

Secondly, when it comes to us going out and taking portraits throughout San Diego, it’s typically less crowded! Especially at the beach and popular tourist areas such as Balboa Park, crowds can get a little crazy on Saturdays and Sundays. I always look for the best angles to reduce the number of people in the backgrounds, but this is much easier to avoid during the week!

La Jolla Couple Portraits

Okay, back to Jenny and Frank’s wedding. :) With it being in the middle of the day, after the ceremony, everyone gathered together on the terrace at La Valencia hotel for a delicious lunch overlooking the ocean.

Once lunch wrapped up, we got to spend the rest of the afternoon taking photos at different locations in La Jolla! Typically, engagement sessions are the only time when I get multiple hours to take portraits of the couple, so when I heard we were getting over 3 hours just to take photos of the bride and groom, I was so excited!

In addition to taking portraits of Jenny and Frank at La Valencia, we also went to UCSD. As I briefly mentioned above, they both studied at UC San Diego, so this was a special and meaningful place to include on their wedding day! Finally, we ended the day by taking wedding photos at Scripps Pier. Their wedding party joined us here, which was the perfect way to wrap up the evening.
